El Gouna

El Gouna, the cream of the crop and a self contained community.

There are three main areas in El Gouna, Downtown, Tamr Henna Square and the Abu Tig Marina.

El Gouna specializes in water-sports activities, including scuba diving, windsurfing, kitesurfing, waterskiing, parasailing and snorkeling as it boosts with several beaches including Zeytuna Beach located on its own island, Mangroovy Beach, Moods Beach and other hotel beaches. A well-designed network of canals that allows most of the houses to enjoy a private beachfront, even hundreds of meters inland and most of these canals are crossed by small stone bridges.

There are 18 hotels, totalling to 2,895 rooms and ranging from three-star to five stars rates and some of which were designed by a renowned American architect. This is in addition to a six-star hotel located next to the Abu Tig Marina Extension.

Getting around El Gouna is not a problem as there is a lot of local transportation option, from UberTuktuk, E-bikes, Shuttle buses or even a private limousine.   You can purchase your daily or weekly tickets from your hotel reception for a shuttle bus that have routes around Downtown. Ubertuktuk is a motorbike driven carriage that can accommodate 1-2 passengers and can be booked with your Uber account and pay with either cash or by card. An e-bike sharing system called Baddel is also in place with 10 stations all throughout El Gouna.  You can rent and unlock these bikes also through a mobile app called Baddel that is available on IOS and android store, rates will vary and may start from 25-140 EGP depending on your range of bookings hours. 

Other than sports activities and beaches, you can also enjoy a romantic stroll in the boulevard, go to a cinema, savour the local delicacies and international cuisines over an array of restaurants to choose with, and if you fancy a nightlife in El Gouna, you will surely have a lit.  Several attractions and activities around the town include the small aquarium, a go-kart track, a paintball arena, tennis courts, horse stables and a football stadium, El Gouna has it all.  It also hosts a golf course designed by Gene Bates and Fred Couples, while the second golf course real estate project, Ancient Sands Golf Resort designed by acclaimed golf course architect Karl Litten opened in 2012.

El Gouna has fully equipped hospitals that can handle many medical treatments.  It also features an intensive care unit and a decompression chamber in case of diving accidents. The town hosts the El Gouna International School, a campus of the TU Berlin an Environmental Geographic Information System and a small private airport for charter aircraft. There are also three marinas: Abydos Marina, the Abu Tig Marina and the Abu Tig Marina Extension, currently in its last phase of construction, which can accommodate superyachts.

The town also houses a small museum which opened in 1996 with some 90 exhibits including statue replicas and an exhibition hall of contemporary Egyptian paintings by Egypt's most prominent artists of the 20th century, Hussein Bikar.  You will also find a mosque and a Coptic church, the Church of St. Mary and the Archangels.

The annual event El Gouna Film Festival an annual film festival was established in 2017 that hosts local and international celebrities to kick it up a notch.
